Description
Edinbarnet House is a large mansion built in 1885 by Sir John James Burnet of Burnet & Son, located on a picturesque hillside. The main block is a substantial two-storey structure with a flat roof and a basement, featuring a broad low tower at the southwest corner. The design is quite severe and simple, incorporating some early Renaissance details. The southeast angle is splayed and treated as a corner bay, with windows that have pediments.
The building has a balustraded parapet, although much of it was unfortunately replaced by a solid Fyfestone parapet in 1976. An interesting feature is the arched entrance porch on the western elevation, supported by squat columns with sculptured capitals that draw inspiration from American Romanesque architecture. Additionally, there is a lower two-storey northwest wing with a slated roof that forms an L-shaped forecourt.
