Description
Mains Cottage and Kennels, located in Delnadamph, is a building that dates from after 1867. It is a single-storey and attic, three-bay cottage featuring lean-to pavilions, a porch, and a late 19th-century addition at the rear. The cottage is situated on a north-facing hill and is harled.
On the north elevation, there is a gabled porch that projects at the center, with a window on the return to the right. Flanking bays contain windows, and there are doors leading to the lean-to pavilions. The attic features piend-roofed, canted dormers that are slate-hung.
The south elevation includes a piend-roofed addition to the right of center, with a window at the center and a window in each pavilion. The building has 4-pane sash and case windows, along with modern hopper windows in smaller openings. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are pink granite gablehead stacks.
The kennels, built in the later 19th century, are single-storey and in an L-plan layout. They are constructed of rubble with squared and ashlar dressings, featuring harl-pointing and limewashed boundaries to the runs. The east-west range is blank on the north side and has six bays on the south side, with four leading to walled runs that have saddleback coping. Two bays on the far right are grouped closely by a re-entrant angle.
The north-south range is shorter, with a door by the re-entrant angle on the west side and another door at the center. There is a window in the chimney-headed gable end to the south. The roof is slate with a clay ridge, and it features ashlar coped skews and cast-iron rooflights.
