Description

Burnside is a single-storey cottage built around 1860, designed in a T-plan with a basement at the rear, situated on sloping ground. The exterior is harled with polished granite dressings.

The south elevation features three bays that are grouped towards the center. There is a gabled porch that projects forward, which has a deeply-chamfered Tudor-arched granite opening and a two-leaf, part-glazed door, with windows on either side. A window is also located on the gabled return to the left.

On the east elevation, there is a gabled end bay to the left with a window, a recess in the center, and a gabled bay from a later addition to the right.

The north elevation has a broad blank gable from the rear wing of the T-plan on the right, which includes a louvred arrowslit for the basement and a basement door on the left return. Later bays are recessed to the right, featuring an additional door and window.

The cottage has 8-pane sash and case windows that include a mullion effect with center astragals. The roof is covered with purple slate and has overhanging eaves supported by ornately carved timber angle brackets, along with decorative apex details and gablehead finials. Granite coped ashlar stacks complete the structure.
