Description
1 Ivy Cottage in Easter Balmoral dates from around 1850 and is a single-storey cottage with an attic, featuring a rectangular plan and three bays. There is a later extension at the rear, and the cottage has been subdivided. The exterior is harled with granite cills.
On the northeast elevation, there is an open, gabled timber porch at the center, which has a segmental-arched opening supported by timber columns with stop-chamfered arrises and cornices that resemble pilasters. Above the porch is a shield panel in the gablehead, and there is a cusp-headed timber railing with a swept roof. The windows in the flanking bays are complemented by small, gabled, slate-hung dormers above, which feature timber gableheads and swept eaves.
At the rear, there is a gabled en suite addition. The cottage has 4-pane glazing in sash and case windows, with a pronounced astragal at the center. The roof is covered in grey slates, with purple slates used for the porch and rear. There are granite stacks at the gableheads.
