Description

Gallows Knowe Bridge, dated 1898, is a large bridge featuring a single segmental arch with splayed wing walls. The parapet is made of random grey rubble topped with flat bull-faced copes, while the arch is constructed with rusticated red sandstone voussoirs and has a brick soffit. The wing walls are accented with long and short red sandstone quoins. On the southeast elevation, there is a red sandstone margined tablet displaying the date 1898, and on the northwest elevation, there is a slightly simpler red sandstone tablet bearing the initials DR.
