Description
Newbigging is a cottage likely built in the early 19th century, which incorporates earlier materials and features a 1930s piend-roofed addition at the rear, creating an L-shaped layout. The cottage is single storey with three bays and has gabled ends, with a central timber panelled front door and asymmetrical gables. The base is made of discontinuous boulders, while the walls are constructed from painted random rubble with roughly-squared long and short quoins. The window lintels and cills are made of stugged sandstone.
The front of the house features timber sash and case windows with 4-pane glazing, while 4-pane glazed casements are found elsewhere. There are small rooflights on the front and two modern rooflights at the rear. The gablehead stacks are coped and include thack-stanes and yellow clay cans. The roof is covered with graded Scottish slate.
