Description

Dated 1892. Circular-plan drinking fountain. Grey granite with pink granite bowl. Moulded base on square plinth set into wide circular-plan concrete step. Shaft inscribed 'THIS FOUNTAIN TOGETHER WITH A MEMORIAL HEADSTONE HAS BEEN ERECTED IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THE LATE WILLIAM McCANDLISH F.R.C.S. BY 262 CONTRIBUTORIES TO WHOM AND THE PUBLIC GENERALLY IN THE EXERCISE OF HIS MEDICAL SERVICES HE ENDEARED HIMSELF AS A PERSONAL FRIEND. HE DIED AFTER A RESIDENCE OF 17 YEARS IN THIS PARISH, UPON THE 12th DAY OF APRIL 1892, AGED 48 YEARS'. Circular-plan bowl surmounted by central post with moulded apex. End of waterspout missing.
