Description

Thornton Lodge is a large, two-storey detached villa built in the mid-Victorian style, constructed from rubble. The building features a three-window stepped L-plan, with a gabled left-hand bay that includes a canted bay window, which is corbelled to square and gabled on both floors. The right-hand bay has a ground floor canted bay with a platformed fish-scale roof and a single dormer-head window above. The central gabled bay includes a gable-hooded porch with a one-window design above it. On the west front, there is a two-window ground floor canted bay to the left and a rectangular tripartite French window bay to the right, also topped with a platformed fish-scale roof and decorative iron cresting. The villa has single-storey wings at the rear and east fronts, and it is topped with slated roofs that feature broad eaves.
