Description
The Walled Garden at Old Auchentroig is likely from the late 18th or early 19th century, but it was significantly rebuilt in the earlier to mid-19th century. It features a rectangular plan and is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with slab coping on the northwest side, dating back to the late 18th or early 19th century. The inner face has a brick lining added in the earlier to mid-19th century. The remaining sides consist of lower-height coursed sandstone rubble walls topped with rounded rubble coping, probably rebuilt in the earlier to mid-19th century. There is an inserted door with brick jambs and a cast-iron lintel at the northeast end of the northwest side, a full-height entrance at the northeast end of the southeast side, and a gap of approximately 8 meters on the southwest side.
