Description
Earlston, located at 38 Ayr Road in Douglas, is a mid-19th century single-storey, three-bay classical house. The building is constructed from coursed rough whinstone, featuring painted ashlar dressings. It has a central recessed door framed by a tall pilastered door-piece with a pediment. The sash windows include lying-pane glazing, chamfered reveals, apron panels, and consoled cornices. The eaves course and cornice are symmetrically placed, and there are corniced diamond stacks. The roof is piended and covered with slate.
Attached to the northeast wall is a later block that has simpler detailing, with massive stacks and pedimented dormers on a steeply pitched slated roof. To the northwest, there is a former stable block that has a blocked segmental-headed opening facing Braehead.
