Description
Elpalet, located at 250 East Kilbride Road in Rutherglen, is a large 2-storey castellated villa designed around 1914, featuring some Tudor design influences. The building is constructed of concrete and brick, with a white rendered exterior, and has parapetted and crenellated wallheads. The principal (east) elevation showcases two projecting canted bays of varying widths and depths. On the south elevation, there is a single-storey porch with a Tudor arch. The villa includes hood-moulded single windows and entrances, while the larger windows feature timber mullions and transoms with a central arch detail. Some modern glazing is present, mainly on the rear (west) elevation. At the back of the house, there is a forestair and a single full-height canted bay topped with a cat slide roof. The roof itself is partly pitched and slated, with some flat sections.
The interior was partially observed in 2016 and has been subdivided into four dwellings since the early 1960s. Several rooms display detailed plasterwork and wood panelling. The ground-level entrance vestibules retain marble geometric pattern flooring, and the south vestibule features a domed ceiling in the circular entrance hall leading from the porch, which has a tiled mosaic floor.
Additionally, there are three gatepiers at the northeast entrance of the semi-circular drive, which are crenellated in the same style as the villa's wallheads.
