Description
West Gate Lodge in Birkwood, Lesmahagow, dates from the earlier to mid-19th century, possibly around 1858, and was built at the same time as additions to the main house. This gate lodge is a single-storey, symmetrical structure with a three-bay driveway elevation. It features gables above the openings and a gabled slate roof supported by plain iron columns at each end, where the main angles are deeply canted. The exterior is finished in polished yellow ashlar, and it has sash windows. The entrance is a central door, and there is a single window on the north flank facing the main roadway, which is topped with a bracketed hood.
