Description
West Lodge and Gates with Gatepiers at Altyre date from the earlier 19th century. This single-storey gate lodge faces south and features a three-bay frontage that leads to the driveway. The exterior is harled with ashlar margins and contrasting painted ashlar dressings. The central doorway is pointed-headed and hoodmoulded, situated beneath a projecting semi-circular canopy that is supported by a pair of octagonal columns with flared facetted capitals. On either side of the doorway are hoodmoulded three-light windows with pointed-headed lights and Y-tracery glazing in the upper sash.
The west elevation has two bays, including a later added bay, with each bay fronted by a projecting canted window that features metal horizontal glazing. The roof has a piended slate covering with projecting eaves and includes a central pair of diagonally set ridge coped ashlar stacks. There is a modern flat-roofed extension at the northeast.
The gates, likely from around 1900, consist of an ornate pair of wrought-iron carriage gates that have a shaped and intricately decorated upper part. These gates are hung on a pair of simple square harled gatepiers that date from around 1950.
