Braxfield House, New Lanark Road, New Lanark

Braxfield House, located on New Lanark Road in New Lanark, is a mid-18th century building with late 18th century additions, currently a roofless ruin. It features a near-symmetrical U-plan layout consisting of three 4-bay blocks arranged around a courtyard. The central block is tall, with two stories and an attic, and has a pediment facing the courtyard. The slightly lower wings to the north and south are also two stories high. Curved walls extend from these wings to form the entrance to the courtyard. The building is constructed of sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and has discontinuous string courses. The fenestration is regular, with projecting cills, and there are scrolled skewputts on the west block. Additionally, there is a vaulted basement.
