Description
The Terraced Garden at Castlebank House features a layout from the later 18th century, with additions and alterations made in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It includes extensive parterre and terraces situated on steeply sloping ground that overlooks the Clyde Valley. The garden is supported by rubble retaining walls topped with sandstone coping, some of which have brick buttresses positioned between the terraces. There is also a brick retaining wall located below the path of the middle terrace. In the Arts & Crafts style, there is dry stone low walling surrounding the plant beds on both the top and middle terraces. Various flights of steps from different periods can be found throughout the garden, including steps with stone slab 'stringer-type' edging that date from the late 19th century or later.
