Description

Silvermills House, located at 3 West Silvermills Lane in Edinburgh, dates from around 1760. It is a three-storey, three-bay house with a symmetrical rectangular plan and a single-storey addition that projects to the west. The exterior is constructed of coursed cream sandstone rubble with polished ashlar dressings, featuring architraved single windows and stugged quoins.

The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a centrally located lugged and architraved doorway with a cornice above and a boarded door. There are windows on the first and second floors, as well as in the remaining bays, except for the single pitch-roofed addition that projects from the left bay. The south elevation consists of two bays with two doorways at ground level and windows on the first and second floors in both bays, along with a small window in the gablehead. The north elevation also has two bays, but features six blocked windows and a fireplace. The rear (east) elevation has three bays with symmetrically arranged windows on each floor.

The house has small-pane sash and case windows with horns, a grey slate roof, large skylights, and corniced gablehead stacks. The interior has been entirely remodelled.
