Description
St Sophia Episcopal Church, located on Bell's Wynd in Douglas, dates back to 1706. Originally a 2-storey, 4-bay rubble-built house, it features chamfered reveals. The interior walls have been removed and the space converted into a church. The entrance is on the east wall, which has a dated lintel with a Latin inscription beneath a square panel that includes a crown. A door that once faced Bell's Wynd has been changed into a window. The building has crowstepped gables and ball finials. There is a later chancel extension on the south side, as well as a flat-roofed modern extension at the southeast corner. The roof is made of slate.
