Description
The Catholic Church of Our Lady, built in 1832 with an extension added in 1886, is located on Old Mill Lane in Marnhull. The church is constructed from coursed, squared rubble, ashlar, and render. The nave features a Roman-tiled roof with stone slate verges and a stone coping topped with a bell-cote. The chancel has a steeply pitched gable-ended tiled roof, and there are weathered stage buttresses and lancet windows throughout. A notable gable window consists of three graduated lancets. The west porch is made of ashlar and has a stone slated roof with stone coping. The doorway is characterized by a moulded two-centred head with a returned label, and the original door has a lattice of diagonal ribs.
Inside, the church includes a moulded two-centred chancel arch with capitals, an octagonal font on an octagonal stem, and an arch in the chancel leading to an annex. There is a west gallery, a statue on a carved angel corbel in the nave, and a cinquefoiled stoop in the porch. The west door is two-centred and roll moulded, and the interior features 20th-century seating and a king-post roof in the nave.
