Description

Orchard House is a late 18th-century house with a late 19th-century extension to the right. It is constructed of rubble walls with a tiled, gable-ended roof and brick stacks located at the ends and to the left of centre. The original house has two storeys and a four-window front. The window and door openings have segmental stone heads. The windows are 3-light casements with leaded lights. A double, panelled, part-glazed door is topped with a radiating fanlight and sheltered by an open, dentilled, pedimental hood supported on shaped brackets. Internal features, as recorded by the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (RCHM), include a staircase with cut strings and shaped spandrels, and a moulded handrail terminating in a splayed scroll. The house is listed primarily for its 18th-century character, rather than the 19th-century addition.
