Description

Senior's Farmhouse and attached barn is a Grade II* listed building dating from around 1500, with 18th century and later additions and alterations. The structure features coursed rubble and ashlar walls topped with a gable-ended roof, which is tiled and stone-slated. There are brick stacks located at the gable and to the right of the front door.

The east facade is two storeys high and has a four-window range. On the ground floor to the right, there is a three-light square-headed window with a hood mould, where each light has a four-centred head. Next to this is a modern single-light casement in a blocked doorway. To the right of the doorway is a two-light square-headed window with a cusped, traceried head. The left-hand bay features a modern copy of the right-hand bay window. The two upper floor north bays have two-light square-headed windows with square-headed lights, while the upper floor left bays are similar but with traceried heads. Between the two left bays is a small trefoiled loop.

The doorway has a moulded, pointed head with continuous jambs in a square surround, featuring carved leaf spandrels under a label. This doorway has been altered by the insertion of an 18th century part-glazed, panelled door.

The attached barn, dating from the 18th century, has rubble walls and a stone-slate roof. Notable internal features include moulded and chamfered ceiling beams and wall-plates, four-centred head fireplaces with various carvings and decorations, high-quality original plank and muntin partitions (one of which bears paintings and another with carved tracery), 16th century moulded plaster ceiling panels, and four-centred head partition doorways. The exact original purpose of the building remains uncertain.
