Description
Stonelaw High School, located on Melrose Avenue in Glasgow, was built between 1885 and 1886 by architect J J Craig and extended in 1905 with a duplicate block. The two blocks are connected by a recessed three-storey Italianate tower. The school is two storeys high and features regular bays along its long street elevation, original glazing, a band course between the floors, and a deep cornice with brackets. The outer bays are recessed, and the symmetrical flank elevations include a central entrance with a blocked architrave and a tall round-arched stair window above. The roofs are slate. The main entrance is situated in the tower and features a porch with rusticated columns, an aedicule above, and a balustrade. The building is constructed of squared rubble with ashlar dressings and raised quoins.
