Description

Rutherglen East Church, located at 18 Farmeloan Road in Rutherglen, Glasgow, was designed by G P Kennedy and R Dalgleish and built between 1871 and 1872. This Gothic church features a tower and underwent repairs from 1895 to 1898, with the roof being renewed in 1910 due to mining subsidence.

The church has a gabled nave-and-aisles front, with the square tower positioned to the right, facing the south aisle. It is constructed from squared rubble with ashlar dressings. The tower includes offset buttresses and consists of three stages, topped with a tall spire that has lucarnes. The main entrance is located in the gable, with a large geometric-traceried window above it and a pinnacled buttress to the left, above the aisle. The flanks of the church are adorned with tall lancet windows, and the roof is slated with triangular ventilators. Inside, the church features a galleried layout supported by steel tie-bars and plates.
