Miners' Library Including Boundary Wall, 15 Main Street

The Miners' Library, located at 15 Main Street, is a purpose-built library that likely dates from the late 18th century. It is a single-storey building with three bays, featuring a central gabled entrance porch adorned with decorative bargeboards and steps leading to the entrance on the west side. The exterior is finished in cream-painted harled rubble with grey margins, and it has a timber two-leaf entrance door. The eastern elevation is blank.

The library has 12-pane timber sash and case windows and is topped with graded purple slates, while the porch features banded fishscale slates. A gable coped stack with thackstanes is located on the north side.

The boundary wall to the west is low and has flat coping, constructed from rubble with cement render.

Inside, there are bespoke bookcases along the rear wall and part of the side walls, likely installed in 1874, and the library houses a notable collection of books.
