St Andrew's Parish Church, Avon Street, Hamilton

St Andrew's Parish Church, located on Avon Street in Hamilton, was designed by John Bennie Wilson in 1895. This Gothic church features a symmetrical street elevation, with a buttressed nave gable and tall octagonal stair turrets that front the aisles, each topped with facetted roofs. Shallow porches connect the bays, and the main roof sweeps over the aisles, complemented by shallow gabled transepts and a shallow chancel that houses the organ and is fronted by a pulpit. The exterior is constructed of bull-faced red Dumfriesshire ashlar with polished dressings, and the roofs are slated with red ridging tiles. To the left of the church is a hall that also features a gable facing the street. Inside, the church has cast-iron columns supporting the roof, a gallery with a panelled front, a good series of leaded glass windows, and aisle arcades. The entire structure is enclosed by wrought-iron railings and decorative gates.
