Description

John Bennie Wilson, 1895. Gothic church with symmetrical

street elevation - buttressed nave gable, tall

octagonal stair turrets fronting aisles with facetted

roofs, shallow porches in linking bays, main roof behind

swept over aisles, shallow gabled transepts, shallow

chancel (containing organ and fronted by pulpit). Bull-

faced red Dumfriesshire ashlar with polished dressings;

slated roofs with red ridging tiles. Hall to left also

with gable to street. Interior has cast-iron columns

supporting roof, gallery with panelled front set

between; good series of leaded glass windows; aisle

arcades. All set behind wrought-iron railings,

decorative gates.
