Ayr Lodge, Blairquhan

Ayr Lodge at Blairquhan is an earlier 19th century gate lodge, likely with an extension added in the early 20th century. It is a single-storey, three-bay structure designed in an L-shape, featuring Tudor detailing and an Italianate roof with deep overhanging eaves that create the appearance of a broken pediment. The building is constructed from squared, coursed, tooled sandstone with polished ashlar dressings and includes a base course.

The lodge has hoodmoulds above bipartite stone-mullioned windows with chamfered margins. The central entrance features a timber-boarded front door with a bipartite fanlight set in a Tudor-arched, chamfered surround. To the right, there is an advanced gable with a large, projecting canted window, while a bipartite mullioned window is located to the left, both with continuous hoodmoulds. The side elevations have single bipartite stone-mullioned windows, and the south elevation of the rear extension includes a single light.

The windows feature 3-pane glazing in fixed timber lights with tilting upper panes, and the rear has timber sash and case windows with 4-pane glazing. The building is topped with coupled, concave-faced, coped octagonal sandstone ashlar stacks and is covered with grey slate.
