Description
Earlier 19th century, extended 1930s and later. Single storey and basement, 2-bay, roughly L-plan picturesque gate lodge with Tudor detailing, Italianate roof with deep overhanging eaves creating the effect of a broken pediment, 2-bay extension to SE and ground falling away to 2-storey rear with central 20th century single-bay extension and forestair. Squared, coursed, tooled sandstone to front, random rubble to rear, harled masonry to SE and rear extensions, with polished ashlar dressings throughout. Base course. Hoodmoulds above stone-mullioned windows with chamfered margins to principal elevations.
FURTHER DESCRIPTION: timber-boarded Tudor-arched front door in chamfered surround to advanced entrance bay with capped, corniced tall octagonal pier to left of door and single light to side elevation; large, projecting canted window to right of door; 2-bay extension to far right with one single and one bipartite mullioned window and raised quoins and dressings. Timber-boarded door to basement at rear.
2-pane glazing in timber casement windows. Coupled, diagonally-set square sandstone ashlar stacks with string courses and clay cans. Graded grey slate roof.
GATEPIERS: 2 capped, corniced octagonal sandstone ashlar gatepiers. Decorative cast-iron railing joining N pier to gate lodge.
