Description
Fenwickland is a later 18th century, 2-storey, 3-bay classical house located at 28 Maybole Road in Ayr. The building has a rectangular plan and is harled, featuring painted surrounds to its square-headed openings.
The southeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a single window above a central advanced entrance porch. The entrance is located at the right re-entrant angle and features a glazed timber door, with flanking single windows on both the ground and first floors. There is an additional single window on the ground floor to the left of the porch. A low-pitched section with a single window connects to a later addition.
On the northwest elevation facing Shawfield Avenue, the main house has a 3-bay layout with regular fenestration on both the ground and first floors. The central window on the ground floor is semi-filled, and there is an additional square window to the right. A modern cat-slide roofed section to the right has a single window, while the re-entrant angle to the right features windows on both floors. A glazed timber door is located to the left, with single windows on the ground and first floors in a recessed section to the outer right.
The northeast and southwest elevations were not visible in 1999. The house predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a slate roof with stone skews, rooflights, coped gablehead stacks, and circular cans. The cast-iron rainwater goods are also noted.
The interior was not seen in 1999. There are single-storey ancillary structures located to the southeast and northeast of the main house.
