The Lodge, Broughton

The Lodge in Broughton, dated 1870, is a low, single-storey cottage from the late 18th century, featuring nine bays. It has a later 19th-century addition that is two-storeys high and perpendicular to the rear, creating a T-plan layout. The exterior is constructed of whinstone rubble with dressed sandstone quoins and window margins, and it has ashlar stacks. The plain timber bargeboards include lead skew detailing.

The windows are timber sash and case, with an 8-pane glazing pattern at the front and a 4-pane pattern at the rear. The entrance door is a six-panel timber door with vertical glazed panels, accompanied by a brass bell pull. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are ashlar ridge, gable, and wallhead stacks. The property features cast-iron rainwater goods with squared hoppers and zinc ridges.

Inside, there is a timber gun rack, panelled and boarded doors, timber floors on the ground floor, fireplaces, and a ceramic butler's sink.
