Description

The building at 36 Easter Street in Duns is a mid-18th century structure with later alterations. It is a two-storey, four-bay house that includes a cobbled pend and a shopfront. The exterior is roughcast with painted margins, and it serves as a veterinary surgery with a yard located at the rear.

On the north elevation facing Easter Street, there is a door in the inner left bay with a window above it. To the left, there are windows on both floors, and a plate glass shop window is situated next to the door on the right. The pend on the right features a flat lintel and has a window above it. To the left, there is a boarded door with an ashlar lintel leading to the wynd between the houses. The eastern gable end is constructed of rubble.

The rear elevation shows a stone arch to the pend on the left, with a window above it. To the right, there are three irregular bays that connect at ground level to the veterinary surgery, which was formerly a bakery. The building has plate glass windows and is topped with grey slates and brick stacks.

The surgery itself is a two-storey, piend-roofed structure made of rubble, recently converted from the former bakery. On the left side, there is a gabled hoist and loading door for the hay loft on the first floor.

Additionally, there is a rubble boundary wall enclosing the yard at the rear.
