Description
2 Buccleuch Street in Hawick is a building dating from around 1800. It is a three-storey structure with an attic, featuring a symmetrical rectangular plan and three bays. The ground floor houses a shop, while the upper floors contain flats. The ground floor has a smooth render finish, while the upper levels are made of harled stone with painted raised ashlar margins. The shop has a plain, modern fascia.
The south elevation facing Buccleuch Street has three bays and includes two canted dormers. The east elevation, which faces Sandbed, has two bays, and the north elevation towards Orrock Place features irregular fenestration with a forestair. The shop has plate glass glazing, while the upper storeys are fitted with timber sash-and-case windows that have four-pane glazing. The building has a coped, rendered gablehead stack with circular buff clay cans, a grey slate roof with a metal ridge, and cast-iron rainwater goods.
