Description

91 Bongate in Jedburgh is an early 19th century house that was later modified in the 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay gabled structure with garages and U-plan outbuildings attached to the rear. The exterior is cement rendered with ashlar margins and cills.

On the southeast elevation facing Bongate, the bays are grouped towards the center with a regular arrangement of windows. The central door features glazed panels and is set deep within an ornate doorpiece, which has moulded and panelled brackets supporting a cornice and an applied parapet. This door is flanked by windows that also have similar bracketed cornices, while the plain windows above complete the design. The southwest elevation has a gable with a window on the right at the first floor and a small window in the gablehead to the left of the gablehead stack.

The northeast elevation presents a blank gable with a single-storey rubble range to the northwest. The northwest elevation shows the rear of the house with the attached outbuildings.

The windows are timber pivot plate glass, and the roof is covered with grey slate, featuring brick stacks. There are also gatepiers, gates, and railings; a low wall along Bongate has ashlar saddlebak coping and tapering octagonal gatepiers at the center and to the left, along with decorative cast-iron arrowhead railings and gates.
