Description
Burgh Chambers, located on Church Street in Eyemouth, was built around 1880 and showcases Scottish Baronial architectural style. The building has two storeys and an attic. The east front features an off-centre entrance gable with a large multi-order round-headed door. Above this entrance, the first-floor window is accompanied by a quatrefoil balustraded balcony. The gable is adorned with a large relief of a fishing boat, triangular coped crowsteps, and a prominent finial. There is a similar, smaller gable that is canted at the south angle. At the north angle, adjacent to Renton Terrace, there is a two-storey octagonal tower at the ground level, which has a door leading to Church Street. The tower is corbelled to a drum at the first storey and includes three windows, a moulded eaves-course, and a conical slated roof featuring bands of fish-scale pattern. A large gargoyle is positioned at the junction with the eaves of the main block. The main body of the building has bipartite or tripartite openings, along with jerkin-headed dormers in the attic. The exterior is finished in stugged ashlar with polished dressings, and the roofs are slated.
