Description
20, 22, 24 Warrender Park Road is a four-storey, six-bay Scots Baronial tenement built around 1878. It features squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. The building has a base course and a corbel table at the third floor, which steps down to the second floor at the third and fourth bays, along with chamfered reveals.
The northern entrance elevation has three architraved doorways at the ground level, separated by bipartite windows. The doors are deep-set and panelled, topped with plate glass fanlights. To the outer right, there is an advanced round tower set in a re-entrant angle with the neighbouring buildings at nos 26-30 Warrender Park Road and 22-30 Marchmont Crescent. This tower features bipartite windows on all floors, with an additional single window at the ground level. The third-floor window breaks the eaves in a pedimented and finialled dormerhead, which has a circular patera inset. The tower is topped with a conical roof and a cast-iron weathervane finial.
On the outer left side, there is a full-height canted window, which is corbelled to a square in the crowstepped gablehead, also featuring a floral patera inset. The inner left bay has bipartite windows, with a third-floor window breaking the eaves in a gabled dormerhead that has a thistle finial and a circular patera inset. The inner right bay contains single windows, with a third-floor window breaking the eaves in a finialled pedimented dormerhead. The remaining central bays have single windows, topped by a crowstepped gable, with a blank tablet between the bays at the third floor and a bracketed semi-circular pediment set in the gablehead.
The building has plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, coped and rendered gableheads, and moulded cans. The interior was not seen in 1990. There is a low saddleback wall to the street.
