Description

This building, located at 2, 4, 6, and 8 Warrender Park Road in Edinburgh, dates from around 1880 and is a four-storey Jacobean-style corner tenement block with shops on the ground floor. It is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone rubble, featuring contrasting polished ashlar dressings. Notable architectural elements include a cornice above the shops, an incised eaves course, basket-arched windows that break the eaves at the third floor, raised surrounds and cornices, and long and short quoins.

On the north elevation facing Warrender Park Road, there are three altered shopfronts at ground level and a doorway leading to the tenements, which has a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. The elevation has three bays and a semi-circular corner turret above, with bipartite windows in the outer right bay. The remaining bays feature single windows, and there is a shaped pediment above the third-floor window on the centre left. The corner turret has three single windows on each floor and a central semi-circular pediment along with two shaped pediments above the third-floor windows, topped with a fishscale conical roof.

The east elevation facing Chalmers Crescent is a blank gable wall. The south elevation at the rear has bipartite windows in the outer left bay and single windows in the remaining bays. The west elevation features a crowstepped gable that adjoins Nos 12-16 Warrender Park Road.

The building has 4-pane and plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, scrolled shoulders on the coped wallhead stacks, corniced mutual stacks, and moulded octagonal cans. The interiors were not seen in 1990.
