Description

This building, located at 103-107 Somerville Street in Burntisland, was constructed in 1899 and is a three-storey, eight-bay Scottish Renaissance tenement. The bays are grouped in pairs of two. The ground floor is made of ashlar, while the upper floors are finished in squared and snecked sandstone. The sides and rear of the building are faced with red brick, featuring contrasting bands between the upper floors. Notable architectural details include long and short work quoins, a partial base course, and a moulded band course above the ground floor, along with an architraved doorcase.

On the south elevation, the entrance features a timber door with a four-pane fanlight, positioned between paired windows to the left. The doorpiece is pedimented and includes a dated shield in the tympanum, adorned with scrolls and a thistle finial. To the right of the entrance, there are four windows. The first and second floors exhibit regular fenestration, with the second-floor window heads breaking the eaves into crow-stepped gabled dormers, which are topped with thistle, moon, and star finials.

At the rear, there is an independent stair tower with access platforms. The upper sashes of the windows are six-pane over plate glass, set in sash and case frames. There are four windows to the left at the ground floor and in bays three and four on the second floor. The windows in bays five and six at the ground and first floors feature plate glass glazing in timber sash and case frames, while the remainder of the windows are made of aluminium and uPVC. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and the building has coped ashlar stacks with cans and coped ashlar skews.
