Sheaf House, Main Street, Allanton

Sheaf House is a mid-19th century, single-storey terraced house with an attic and a later addition at the rear. It has a rectangular plan with three bays. The exterior features stugged ashlar and finely droved ashlar dressings, while the rear is made of painted rubble with droved dressings. The building has a base course and stop-chamfered arrises.

On the east elevation, there is a panelled door in the centre with a 2-pane rectangular fanlight above, all set in a pedimented doorpiece. Each flanking bay has a bipartite window with slightly advanced painted margins. The windows are swept in below the eaves and corbelled above, with gabled dormers that feature wheat sheaf carvings at the finialled gableheads.

The west elevation includes a single-storey addition in the centre. The roof is covered with slate, featuring fishscale slates in alternating bands. There is an ashlar coped skew to the north with a skewputt, and a central 3-flue brick stack with coping, along with a coped brick mutual stack to the north.

The interior was not seen in 1996.
