Description
Eildon View, formerly known as Stichill Lodge, is an earlier 19th-century gatelodge designed in a Neo-Jacobean style. It features a two-storey, three-bay, multi-gabled cruciform plan, highlighted by prominent octagonal chimneys with stepped stacks. The building is constructed from polished ashlar stone, complemented by stugged ashlar dressings. It has a base course, a string course, and an eaves course supported by scrolled stone corbels.
The stone-mullioned windows, some of which have had their mullions removed, display chamfered margins. The front door is timber-panelled and set within a stop-chamfered architrave, leading to a formerly open porch that has been glazed in on the west elevation. An advanced four-light canted window is located at the ground floor of the left gable, while the south elevation features an advanced gable with a stone canopied tripartite window. There is a small extension at the rear of the building.
Notably, there is non-traditional UPVC glazing present. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, and the saw-toothed stone skews end in bracketed skewputts. Stone spear-headed finials adorn the gables, although some are missing.
