Walled Garden, Netherbyres House

The Walled Garden at Netherbyres House was likely designed and laid out by William Crow around 1730 and later completed and improved by Samuel Brown around 1834. Greenhouses were added around 1870 but were demolished and replaced by a private residence in the late 20th century. This elliptical-plan walled garden, which covers approximately 1.5 acres, is located to the east of Netherbyres House. The tall, coped walls are made of harl-pointed rubble on the outer elevations, with some sections featuring ashlar dressings, and red brick inner linings. The garden includes boarded timber doors throughout, with various long and short surrounds to the openings and some red brick relieving arches. A modern residence, which is part-harled and part brick-built, is situated to the northeast, overlooking the garden. Although the central pond and fountain are missing, various formal paths remain in place.
