Bellachroy, Maxwell Lane, Kelso

Bellachroy, located on Maxwell Lane in Kelso, is a building from the later 18th century. It features a five-bay, two-storey main block with lower two-storey, single-bay wings on both the east and west sides, which return to the north to create a courtyard.

The south front is made of polished ashlar and includes channelled pilaster strips at the corners, flanking a slightly recessed pedimented central bay. There is a broad cill-band at the first floor and a mutule cornice. The wings, while also featuring channelled pilaster strips at the corners, are constructed of coursed squared rubble with raised window margins and a simple eaves-course. The flanks of the building are made of coursed rubble and topped with piended slated roofs.

On the north elevation, there is a broad central segmental bow, which is marked at the ground floor by a projecting single-storey corridor that connects the wings and includes two entrance doors. The northern part of the east wing is harled.
