Waverley Lodge, The Knowes, Maxwell Lane, Kelso

Waverley Lodge, located on The Knowes, Maxwell Lane in Kelso, is a building from the mid 19th century, with later additions from the late 19th century. The exterior is rendered and lined to resemble ashlar, topped with a slated roof.

The south front features two storeys and was originally designed with three bays, where the central bay is advanced. The ground floor has a canted design, and the first floor is corbelled to a square shape, topped with a curvilinear gable. An additional bay was added to the east, along with square bays on the ground floor during the late 19th century.

On the west gable facing The Knowes, there are two bays and two storeys, featuring square hoodmoulds above the first-floor windows and a quatrefoil in the gable. The gable has straight coped skews with set-offs and a corniced stack at the gabled head. A plaster bust of Sir Walter Scott is mounted on a bracket between the windows, and there is a sculpture of Sir Walter Scott's dog, Maida, over the lintel of the side gate.
