North Gatehouse And Gates, Ferguslie Thread Works, Paisley

The North Gatehouse and Gates at Ferguslie Thread Works in Paisley date from around 1890, with a cast-iron canopy added in 1900. The building is two stories tall, with a single-storey addition on the west side, and features channelled ashlar stonework.

On the north front, there was originally a pedestrian entrance on the right, which is now bricked up. This entrance had a full-height architraved arch with a large cast-iron fanlight, supported by banded piers. In front of this is a canopy held up by four colonnettes, featuring a glass roof and decorative brattishing. To the left of the entrance is a door and a bipartite window, along with a similar window and a single sash window above, all with aprons. There is a cornice between the floors, an entablature with a mutuled cornice, and a parapet. The roof is piended and platformed.

The rear of the building is detailed similarly, with a band course over the ground floor and three window side elevations. There is a carriage entrance on the east side, with gatepiers that are attached to the gatehouse on the right. The cast-iron gates are operated by a hydraulic valve located inside the gatehouse.
