42 New Street, Paisley

42 New Street in Paisley is a mid to late 18th century, near-symmetrical, two-storey house. It features a two-light centre nepus chimney gable and a door with a Gibbs surround located in the second bay of four. The property is now in multiple ownership, with the left bay rendered and painted. A modern shop occupies the ground floor on the right side. The upper part of the building is constructed of rubble and ashlar, with peeling paintwork. The windows above are plate glass sashes, except for the slated, swept-roofed early dormers in the outer bays. The main roof and nepus gable flanks are also slated. There are no end stacks, although there would have originally been some; the flues on the right are carried up in the gable of the adjoining property.
