Description

33 Causeyside Street in Paisley is a four-storey tenement building designed by architect T G Abercrombie between 1905 and 1906. It features a free style with three bays facing Causeyside Street, four bays on Orchard Street, and a canted corner. The building is constructed of ashlar stone.

The corner section has a canted window with later glazing at the ground floor, flanked by an architraved door on the left side (towards Causeyside) that features a shaped cornice and an oculus above, with another oculus to the right (towards Orchard Street). Pairs of consoles support the cornice over the ground floor, and pilasters rise to the eaves, linking to open bartizans. Each floor has tripartite windows, with the third-floor window being corbelled and bowed, topped with a stepped parapet and a crowstepped gable behind.

The Causeyside elevation has a central doorway flanked by a later tripartite window on the right and a modern shop on the left. There is a cornice over the ground floor, and the upper floors feature a bipartite window on the left with a cill band at the third floor. The canted bay has a stepped parapet, and the eaves are swept. The Orchard Street elevation is treated similarly, with an additional sash window and bipartite window at the ground floor, as well as an extra canted window flanking the corner. The building has a slate roof with some corniced stacks and others that have been rebuilt.
