Description
29 Baltic Street in Montrose is an earlier 19th-century house with later alterations. It is a 2-storey and attic, 4-bay, L-plan structure featuring a central nepus gable and is harled.
The west elevation has a regular arrangement of windows and a broad, tripartite doorway located to the left of the central bay. This doorway features a 6-panel door set in an architraved frame with narrow glazed lights on either side. Canted dormers are positioned on either side of the nepus gable.
On the northeast elevation, there is a 2-bay gable end to the right, with the bay on the right blocked at the ground level and blinded at the first floor. A 3-bay wing to the right has two doors at ground level and a window to the left, with regular fenestration at the first floor. Above, there is a dormer with a timber pediment.
The southeast elevation features a blank gable end to the left and a 3-bay wing to the right that includes a door at ground level.
The east elevation shows asymmetrical additions, including a forestair with wrought-iron balusters and a steel handrail that leads to an entrance at the first floor on the right. Above this is a platform-roofed attic storey. To the left, there is a flat-roofed wing with a blank wall rendered at ground level and harled at the first floor, along with a slate-hung piended dormer attic addition offset to the right.
The windows are timber sash and case, with 4-pane windows on the west, two 12-pane windows at the first floor on the east, and one 4-pane window at ground level, while plate glass is used elsewhere. The pitched roof on the west and the platform roof on the east are covered with graded grey slate, and there are stone skews on the north and south. Brick gablehead stacks are present on the north and south, with a harled stack on the nepus gable.
The interior was not seen in 1998.
