Description

Little Ardoch is a classical house from the earlier to mid 19th century, prominently located and featuring a well-detailed, two-storey, three-bay rectangular plan with a piend roof. It has a single-storey wing at the rear, creating an L-shape. The principal elevation remains largely unaltered, showcasing a pilastered doorpiece with a block pediment and a nearly complete pattern of lying-pane glazing throughout. The exterior is finished in stugged ashlar with long and short work quoins and quoin strips, along with base and eaves courses and raised margins with lugged cills on the principal elevation.

The principal east elevation features a central bay at ground floor with a four-panelled timber door and a two-part fanlight, flanked by windows, while the first floor has regular fenestration close to the eaves. The north (garden) elevation has one window on each floor to the left and a small light off-centre to the right on the first floor, situated below a prominent shouldered stack. The largely unaltered rear elevation includes a central stair window.

The windows are primarily timber sash and case, with a 14-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there is a cavetto-coped, ashlar, shouldered wallhead stack to the north with polygonal cans.

Inside, the house features plain plasterwork cornices, working timber shutters, and wall cupboards. The vestibule includes a part-glazed screen door with flanking lights, and there is a dog-leg staircase with decorative cast iron balusters and a timber handrail.

The property is also enhanced by low saddleback-coped walls that incorporate decorative cast iron railings and a gate at the principal elevation.
