Description
Nether Braco Farmhouse is a single storey and attic cottage ornée farmhouse, possibly designed by James Gillespie Graham around 1810-1820. It features a symmetrical, three-bay layout with distinctive Gothic Revival elements, including diagonal buttresses on the advanced, gabled central entrance bay and pointed-arched windows. The exterior is finished in painted harl with contrasting ashlar sandstone margins and Tudor hood moulds above the windows. The ground floor has bi-partite windows, and there is a centrally located entrance door that has a shallow pointed arch, flanked by windows. The roof has deep eaves with exposed timber rafter ends and includes a pair of piended-roof, canted dormers.
Many of the windows are timber sash and case, with some featuring a 2-over-2 pane glazing pattern, while others have non-traditional replacements. The interior, as observed in 2014, retains much of its original room layout, including a timber curved stair and one iron fire surround.
