Description

2-4 Parkview Terrace, located at The Knapp, is a near-symmetrical terrace of four two-storey cottages built in the later 19th century. The exterior is finished in shuttered concrete that mimics ashlar stonework, with painted margins and a slate roof. Most of the cottages retain their original lattice-paned top-hopper windows, although No 1 features modern uPVC windows that are not in keeping with the character of the terrace. The doors and windows are framed with lugged concrete margins and shallowly-pointed lintels, while the first floor includes gable dormerheads. No 3 has an original boarded door, while the other cottages have modern doors that do not match the original style. The eaves are bracketed, and the bargeboards are plain, with various rooflights and coped ridge stacks.

On the south elevation, Nos 2 and 3 are positioned at the center, with a door to the left and a window to the right, along with a window on the first floor. No 1, known as Chapel Cottage, is to the left with a central door, windows on either side, and two windows on the first floor. No 4 is on the right, featuring a door to the right, a window to the left, a window on the first floor, and a stair window on the right return gable.

The west gable includes a single-storey canted bay with a bipartite window featuring a gable dormerhead. There are blocked windows to the left and right, along with a blocked door on the left return and a window in the main gable on the left side.

On the north elevation, No 1 (Chapel Cottage) is located at the far right, with a ground floor window on the left, a forestair leading to a door at the first floor, and windows on both sides. No 2 is positioned to the center right with an off-centre door to the right, and windows on the left and right, along with two windows on the first floor, one of which does not have a gable dormerhead. No 3 is to the center left, featuring an off-centre door to the right, windows on both sides, and paired windows on the first floor. No 4 is at the far left with a door to the left, a window to the right, and a paired window on the first floor.

The interior has not been fully inspected, but no features of specific interest were noted.
