Description

The War Memorial in Bridgend, Aberfeldy, was built in 1922 and serves as a classical arch memorial dedicated to those who fought in World Wars I and II. It acts as a gateway to the Den of Moness. The structure is made of stugged and squared red sandstone rubble, with matching ashlar dressings and a deep rock-faced base course.

On the north elevation, there is a moulded arch featuring relief carvings of crossed swords and a shield in each spandrel. The flanking piers have inset tablets inscribed with the Roll of Honour, along with smaller tablets marked '1939' and '1945' below those from World War I, which have relief carved dates '1914' and '1919' above. The entire structure is topped with a cornice and a deep stepped blocking course. The memorial is flanked by buttress-type walls, each with a stepped cope and a decorative finial, and includes two-leaf ironwork gates.
