Description

226-232 High Street is a four-storey, ten-bay Classical corner tenement built in 1903 by A G Heiton. It features an altered shop on the ground floor and a rounded four-bay corner, located at the intersection of High Street and South Methven Street. The building is constructed of ashlar stone, with rubble at the rear. Notable architectural details include a cornice at the ground level, cill courses, a dentilled cornice, a blocking course, and some balustraded parapet along the High Street side. Full-height pilasters adorn the upper storeys. The window openings on the first storey have moulded architraves with keystones and cornices, while the second storey features round-arched pediments at the corner and cornices along High Street. The third storey has window openings with keystones and Doric pilastered jambs. A date plaque with the architect's insignia indicates the year 1903.

The upper floors have replacement timber casement windows, and the ground floor has plate glass. The roof is covered with grey slates and has gable stacks, along with decorative cast iron rainwater goods.

The interior was partially seen in 2009 and has been refurbished around 1995.
