Description
The lodge at the Perth and Kinross District Council Offices on York Place in Perth was designed by W M Mackenzie around 1836 and later remodelled by David Smart in 1867. This single-storey, three-bay Classical lodge currently serves as offices as of 2009. The building features ashlar stonework with rubble on the east and south sides. It has a base course, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The north elevation facing York Place has three bays, with panelled aprons beneath the windows on the centre and left, and an open entrance porch on the right. A central wallhead scroll adds decorative detail. The west elevation includes a Doric-columned entrance porch on the left and a canted bay window on the right.
The lodge predominantly has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a roof covered with grey slates, and piended roofs. A large central stack with polygonal cans is also present.
The interior was comprehensively modernised in 2009 to create office space.
Additionally, there are a pair of square-plan ashlar gatepiers to the west, each featuring base courses and pedimented capstones.
